Tuesdays Noon - 1:00 Daytime Drills Belly Dance Class is perfect for students with that "irregular" schedule or who want to catch a class on their lunch time. This class is open to all levels, from beginning to advanced. We will focus on technique and drills, with added layers and concepts for more advanced dancers.
Belly Dance Fundamentals and Technique
Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:30 Beginning level class, focusing on the fundamentals and basics of belly dancing. You will learn many different steps, body isolations, shimmies and much more. May also touch on veil and finger cymbals from time to time.
Intermediate Belly Dance Technique
Tuesdays 6:15 - 7:15 This is an intermediate level class, focusing on more advanced fundamentals and technique. Combinations will be used to work on isolations, steps and traveling moves. In this class you will learn finger cymbals and veil.
Advanced Belly Dance Technique
Thursdays 7:30 - 8:30 This is an advanced level class that focuses on strong technique, playing finger cymbals, and finding your own personal style in belly dance. You will learn about many different cultural dances and rhythms from the Middle East. Finger cymbals will be played, and from time to time veil, floor work and sword may be taught.
Saturdays 10:00 - 11:00 Beginning again in January 2019
"Shimmy Strength" is a belly dance fitness class designed for all levels of dancers, from brand new students to advanced performers. This class focuses on cardio, strength training and flexibility to improve endurance, coordination and balance. Have fun while getting your sweat on. Shimmy, stretch and strengthen all in one hour with this fast paced, easy to follow class. Join Alira for a slightly different workout each week.
Beginning Level Belly Dance with Aurora
Sundays 6:00 - 7:00
Come learn the basics of Belly Dance, from posture and technique, steps and isolations, to cultural and historical information brought from the Middle East and passed on to you. The art of belly dance has been around for centuries, and is often know as the oldest dance in the world. Come learn this ancient art while having fun and getting a great workout at the same time.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE? Being on time is important. Try to arrive to class about 10 to 15 minutes early. This allows you time to chat with friends, find a place, use the restroom or speak with your instructor if you need to. Additionally, the building will be locked all day on Sundays and 7:30pm each weekday evening. It is important that you do your best to arrive early in order to not be locked out. If you do not arrive on time, someone will be up about 10 minutes after class begins to let anyone who is late into the building. If you more than 10 minutes late, there is no guarantee that someone will be upstairs to let you in. I apologize for any inconvenience.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS A CLASS? You are allowed to make up a missed class within 1 month of missing it. You'll need to get a Missed Class Form from your normal class and have it completed to hand into the instructor of the class you'll be attending for your make up.
WHAT DO I WEAR TO CLASS? Wear comfortable workout clothes. Something that's a little more snug so I can see your movements. Some students wear hip scarves. We dance barefoot, but some students do wear dance shoes
WHEN SHOULD I START A CLASS? You'll want to try and start a class at the beginning of the session. By doing this, you will ensure that you receive all of the material that is given during the month and you won't be behind for any of the classes. Of course, you are always welcome to drop into a class if this is what works for your schedule, but be aware that if you are dropping in in the 2nd week (for example) you will have missed what was taught in the 1st week. I always do my best to do a review of the prior weeks lesson, but it's usually short and sweet and not as detailed as the week prior.
WHAT DO I BRING TO CLASS? Water! It's important to keep yourself hydrated for any type of physical activity. You might also bring a snack for before or after class if you need it. For more advanced classes you'll want to make sure you bring any props necessary for class.
AM I TOO YOUNG OR OLD? Belly dance is great for ages 13 and up. Come join us!
AM I TOO HEAVY? Absolutely not! Belly dance is acceptable for any size dancer.
WHAT IF I'M INJURED? First, make sure you have clearance to dance from your doctor. You must be responsible for your own health. Once you have clearance, please just remind me that you are injured and make any necessary adjustments to movements.
